    The Secretariat of African National Human Rights Institutions (SANHRI) was established in 1996 and was created to support and empower national human rights institutions in Africa.

    Citizens’ rights are also protected in some African countries through their own Constitutions. For example, chapter two of South Africa’s Constitution sets out a comprehensive set of justiciable political and socio-economic rights for all South Africans.
