Media and Citizens Involved in Police Reform in the DRC[2007 June 29]
IDASA recently held a workshop in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to involve citizens and journalists in particular, in police reform. The importance of independent media was discussed, as well as the role of investigative journalism. Comparative experiences of other African countries in post-conflict police reform was shared with participants. The seminar was concluded with a discussion on the potential of the media in the DRC to become catalysts for a discussion on police reform that would include citizens AND policy makers. Participants discussed some guidelines to a multi-sectoral approach in reporting on security and police reform. For further details download the workshop report below.
